NeuroQuant is the clinical gold standard for measuring MRI brain volume and is FDA-approved. NeuroGage extends the utility of NeuroQuant by focusing on specific methods and techniques relevant to our patient populations.

Most MRI facilities are able to complete a NeuroQuantable MRI sequence. The facility must know the proper NeuroQuant scanner parameters in order to obtain the correct brain scan. (See FAQ "How do facilities complete a NeuroQuantable MRI?" and How It Works above.) NeuroQuantable MRIs are best completed on closed, 3T machines. Unfortunately, they cannot be done on open MRIs, so if a patient has claustrophobia or other conditions that cause duress in closed spaces, we recommend working with your treating physician for options of anxiety management during the scan.

To obtain a NeuroQuantable MRI, the physician needs to explicitly order a NeuroQuantable sequence as part of the brain MRI. Then the MRI technologist needs to know how to set up the MRI scanner exactly right in order to allow later NeuroQuant and NeuroGage analyses. Some MRI facilities have an account with Cortechs.ai to run NeuroQuant software. Those facilities will know how to set up the MRI scanner with the correct parameters. Other facilities may not use NeuroQuant themselves and may need us to provide the special settings to run the NeuroQuantable sequence. NeuroGage software can only be run at the Virginia Institute of Neuropsychiatry (VIN). The MRI images can be put on a CD/DVD and mailed to us at VIN to run both NeuroQuant and NeuroGage brain volume analyses. (See How It Works above.)

Absolutely! We prefer to do that in order to obtain the best possible outcomes for our patients. In fact, if Dr. Ross is not the patient's treating physician, we only send the brain volume analysis results to the patient's care team or legal representative. They can provide and discuss the reports with the patient at their discretion. We welcome and highly recommend expert consultations between Dr. Ross and the patient's care team or legal representative for interpretation of results.

It depends. For basic NeuroQuant and NeuroGage Radar analyses, Dr. Ross does not have to see the patient. In this case, the patient would need a treating clinician or attorney to request and receive the Radar report. A treating physician would need to order the brain MRI. To make an interpretation, Dr. Ross would request more clinical information to integrate with the brain volume findings. This could include a review of select medical records or patient history summaries. (See FAQ "Can patient records and history be incorporated into brain volume analyses?") In some cases, a neuropsychiatric evaluation by Dr. Ross and Ms. Seals-Truitt may be advised for optimal interpretation of results.

No, NeuroQuant and NeuroGage Radar analyses do not include interpretation in the flat fees listed above in Pricing. However, Dr. Ross can provide written interpretation and/or verbal consultation of completed analyses results. If Dr. Ross is not your treating physician, he can only provide your results to and consult with your attorney or treating clinician(s). He can consult with you or other authorized individuals about your results if he is your treating physician OR a treating physician approves your attendance and is present during the consultation.

Costs vary depending on the services requested. The flat fees for NeuroQuant and NeuroGage Radar brain volume analyses are listed above in Pricing. Other services (including Radar interpretations and consultations) require a deposit or retainer and are billed by the hour according to a fee agreement that is signed by the requesting party. For Radar analyses with Dr. Ross's interpretation or a consultation, it depends on his and other clinical staff's availability. Let us know of any deadlines, and we will do our best to accommodate them. For hard deadlines with a turnaround time of less than 3 weeks, Rush rates may be applied.

It depends. For basic NeuroGage Radar analyses, we do not review a patient's clinical records. If you would like a patient's records and history considered in the analyses, we suggest you request NeuroGage Radar analyses with interpretation or consultation. For NeuroGage Radar analyses with written interpretation, we require no more than 20 pages of patient records be sent to us electronically for review. This brief review of records helps Dr. Ross make clinical correlations of brain volume findings with symptoms and narrow down brain disorders consistent with the pattern of findings. If a written interpretation is not needed, but a verbal consultation with Dr. Ross is requested, a brief review of records is not required but may help him prepare a more thorough consultation. Suggested records to review include but are not limited to: summary letters from medical providers regarding history of present illness/injury and care/treatment received records from day of incident (e.g., police report, EMS records, ED visit) duration and location of toxin exposure (e.g., environmental testing results, brief timeline of exposure) select medical records containing past medical history and current symptoms and diagnoses regarding incident or exposure for which you are requesting interpretation (e.g., initial provider evaluation, most recent provider evaluation) If Dr. Ross has evaluated the patient himself either clinically or forensically, all records we reviewed for the initial evaluation plus our interview at VIN will be incorporated into an interpretation of brain volume analyses results.
