Cognoscopy
What is a Cognoscopy?
Cognoscopy is a term coined by Dr. Dale Bredesen, known for his research and advancements in early detection and comprehensive treatment (and reversal) of Alzheimer's disease, that combines laboratory and cognitive testing with optimal brain imaging to evaluate a patient's cognitive decline or risk of cognitive decline.
Routine, preventative care is well-known throughout the medical field for many body systems—well child visits, annual physical exams, blood work, lab tests, vaccinations, pap smears, colonoscopies, mammograms, etc. But what about routine preventative brain care? More often than not, everyday patients don't inquire about or monitor their brain health with a medical professional unless they have symptoms.
Changing the way we look at brain health
NeuroGage Radar can provide the "optimal brain imaging" part of a cognoscopy. NeuroGage Radar goes beyond NeuroQuant by matching brain volume volume abnormalities with those found in the peer-reviewed literature for 14 brain disorders. That provides a quick yet comprehensive screening of baseline brain health! And when brain MRIs are obtained at regular intervals (1 year, 2 years, 5 years, 10 years, etc.), NeuroGage longitudinal analyses show areas of the brain that are significantly changing over time, providing patients and care providers with earlier detection and intervention options.

At VIN, patients can receive a full cognoscopy by obtaining NeuroGage Radar on a brain MRI, getting a comprehensive panel of Labcorp blood tests selected to screen for biomarkers of brain dysfunction, and taking an online, proctored CNS Vital Signs cognitive exam.
